GIG portfolio company, Cero Generation and Enso Energy begin construction on solar PV plant in South Gloucestershire

28 September 2021

  • GIG portfolio company, Cero Generation (“Cero”) – with its UK development partner, Enso Energy (“Enso”) – starts construction of its first subsidy-free utility-scale solar PV project in the UK.
  • This marks the first project in the partners' 1+ GW development to reach financial close and move into construction.

GIG portfolio company, Cero Generation (“Cero”) – with its UK development partner, Enso Energy (“Enso”) – has achieved financial close and will shortly start construction of Larks Green solar farm, its first UK-based subsidy-free utility-scale solar PV project, located in South Gloucestershire, England.

The project will be constructed by Gransolar Group and the operational phase will be led by Ingeteam.  Cero will play an ongoing role providing construction management services to the project. Debt financing was provided by Rabobank, which was arranged by Macquarie Capital.

Once operational, Larks Green will have a generation capacity of approximately 64 GWh annually, capable of powering the equivalent of more than 17,300 homes with clean electricity and avoiding over 23 kilotonnes of CO2 emissions per year.  It will also deliver a biodiversity net gain[1], achieved through the provision of a range of resources for local wildlife including additional woodland planting. The woodland will provide shelter and food for a range of notable and protected species.

Launched in February 2021, Cero is a development-focused solar energy company working across Europe to deliver a net-zero future. It works alongside local partners, including Enso, to deliver its 8 GW portfolio of over 150 utility-scale and on-site generation projects.

Cero Generation is a Green Investment Group portfolio company, operating on a stand-alone basis.
